Hanoi Buffaloes win first VFL trophy

Hanoi Buffaloes were crowned champions of the first Viet Nam Futsal League (VFL) after beating HCM City Wings in a penalty shootout on Sunday.

By the end of official time, the Buffaloes were tied with the title favourites, who played on their home ground, 5-5. The two then played extra time, scoring one goal each.

The deadlock meant the match would be decided with penalties. The Buffaloes managed to net three goals while the Wings could only score twice.

In the third-place playoff, Cantho Catfish beat Saigon Heat 3-1 for the bronze medal. The Wings’ Phung Trong Luan was voted the best player of the league. The VFL is the country’s first professional futsal league. Six teams took part in the tournament, which kicked off in late March.
