Malaysia go down to Thailand in semis of futsal tourney

Saturday, 28 January 2017

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have done it again!

The national futsal team have, for the second time in two days, failed to hold on to a 3-0 lead in the AFF Futsal Championship in Bangkok.

Yesterday, they allowed defending champions Thailand to claw back from three goals down to win 5-3 in the semi-finals at the Huamark Indoor Stadium.

It was the same on Wednesday when Malaysia lost 5-3 to Myanmar – despite leading 3-0 – in their final Group B match.

Last night, Malaysia led through goals by Saiful Nizam Mohd Ali (first minute), Khairul Effendy Bahrin (ninth) and Syed Aizad Daniel (12th) before the Thais turned on the style in the final 20 minutes of the game to win 5-3.

Malaysia, whose coach Chew Chun Yong guided them to two group wins – 6-5 against Indonesia on Monday and 13-1 against Laos on Tuesday – will wrap up their campaign against Timor Leste in the playoff for third place tomorrow.

Thailand will play Myanmar in the final. Myanmar thrashed Timor Leste 8-3 in the other semi-final.
