Hawkesbury GazetteHawkesbury hosts national futsal tournamentby
Conor Hickey16 Jan 2017HAWKESBURY Indoor Stadium played hosted to the Australian Futsal National Championships last week.
For a week, some of the best junior futsal players in Australia played at the stadium, as well as stadiums at Penrith and Liverpool.
The stadium’s sports coordinator Braydon Greentree said at least 2000 people came through the doors of the stadium on average during the week-long tournament.
The players, ranging in ages from under- to open age, all had to deal with last week’s oppressive heat.
Australian Futsal’s Serena Conyngham said while the heat was tough to deal with, the players all managed to battle through it.
“The players struggled through the weather but there has been some great futsal regardless,” she said.
She said this year, a number of players from the tournament would be cherry picked for various international tournaments coming up in either 2017 or 2018.
She said there were 208 teams with over 3000 players.
