Youth soccer players help to ‘kick’ hunger

Jan 12, 2017

On Sunday mornings, soccer players from Thatcher Brook Primary School, Crossett Brook Middle School and the Mad River Valley school in grades 3 to 6 have been playing futsal — what the rest of the world calls indoor soccer — and have been making a weekly contribution of about $5 per player per week toward a gift to the area food shelves.

They made their donation last week, contributing $200 to the Waterbury Area Food Shelf, $200 to the Duxbury Elf Shelf and $200 to the Mad River Valley Food Shelf.

Any player interested in participating can contact Rick Scharf rscharf@pshift.com.

Hayden Adams, Gavin Thomsen and Amaya Rogers helped to support the lead coaches and Waterbury Youth Soccer is sharing equipment and providing technical support.
