Shankhamul win Red Bull League title

Kathmandu, January 7

Shankhamul Futsal defeated Samakhusi Futsal 3-2 to win the title of the Red Bull Futsal League here at the Chaur Recreational Centre in Bansbari today.

kipper Sanjog Chamling Rai, Ronil Maharjan and Sher Bahadur Thapa Magar scored for Shankhamul, while captain Nabin Lama and Saurav Magar netted a goal each for Samakhushi.

Sher Bahadur Thapa Magar put Shankhamul ahead in the third minute before Samakhusi skipper Nabin Lama levelled the tally in the sixth minute. Shankhamul restored the lead after Ronil Maharjan found the back of the nets in the 11th minute and skipper Sanjog Chamling Rai extended the lead in the 22nd minute. Samakhusi’s Saurav Magar cut the deficit in the 26th minute but it was not enough for Samakhusi to avert the defeat.

Champions Shankhamul won Rs one million along with trophy, while runners-up Samakhusi earned Rs 500,000. Similarly, Tejendra Thapa of Kick Off Futsal won the best goalkeeper’s award for being adjudged the man-of-the-match for three times, while Samakhusi’s skipper Nabin Lama won the best player’s award for scoring 35 goals and being the man-of-the-match for six times.

Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli handed over the prizes to the winners. A total of 16 futsal teams competed in the tournament organised by AMA Events under the sponsorship of Red Bull.
