Goa bags double titles at Nat futsal

MARGAO: Goa men and women’s teams emerged champions at the Senior National Futsal Championship held at SMS Indoor Stadium, Jaipur, Rajasthan, recently.

The men’s team defeated Haryana 7-5 via tie-breaker after they were held to a 4-4 draw in the regulation time.
Savio Fernandes scored a brace for Goa in the final while Fredson Marshal and Joshuah Vaz were the other scorers for the winners.
“It was a great team achievement. We would like to dedicate the victory to the Goan people,” said men’s team captain Micheal Silva.

In the women’s final, Goa thumped Maharashtra 4-0 in the one sided affair.

Velim MLA Benjamin Silva said, “The teams have done a great job. They have sacrificed the Christmas at home and gave their best and also emerged champs.”

Goa’s Joshuah Vaz and Velanie Fernandes received the Golden Boot award in the men’s and women’s category respectively.
Women’s team captain Michelle Castana said, “It wouldn’t have been possible without the team effort and dedication. The girls were outstanding throughout the tournament and they deserved this title.”
