-> Derry NowFutsal pride! Find our more about the Derry man who captained Northern Ireland against EnglandThursday 15th of December 2016LAST week Adam Barr walked out as captain of the first Northern Ireland futsal team to be involved in a competitive event.
The Four Nations Cup was held in Wales in the Cardiff City House of Sport and saw the men in green play against Scotland, England and the host nation.
It is the first time the event has been held and it was will now run annually, with each country taking turns to host.
Barr has been playing the sport for six years and he said he is extremely passionate about seeing it develop.
The Irish FA has announced that it will be setting up a new futsal league and with applications now open Barr was quick to encourage local teams to get involved.
“Northern Ireland are setting up a national league and that is a massive step forward for the sport. For me there could easily be at least two or three teams from Derry who could be involved in that and I hope that they do,” he admitted.
“It’s also great for children that they’ll have a structure to get involved with from a young age. The sport teaches you so much about football – you get plenty of touches and time on the ball and that can only help develop talent and passion.”
