Chennai City FC have submitted their bid to be a part of the I-League from 2016-17 season. This was after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) invited interested corporate to submit a formal bid which would signal their intention.
Goal had earlier reported of WTF Infotainment, the holding company of Chennai City FC, having picked up the bid document from the Indian FA less than a fortnight ago.
Meanwhile, the club have already cut their ties with Premier Futsal where they owned the Chennai franchise named Chennai 5’s. It must be noted that the AIFF had sent a notice to every stakeholder, namely the state associations, clubs and players, to steer clear of the Premier Futsal which has former Real Madrid and Barcelona winger Luis Figo as its president.
"We have ended our ties with the Premier Futsal League after the first season,” said Rohit Ramesh, owner of Chennai City FC.
With Sporting Clube de Goa and possibly Dempo SC following suit by pulling out of the I-League, Indian football aficionados had some good news to cherish as Ramesh highlighted his team’s ambition to ply their trade in the country’s premier division.
“We are now looking to compete in I-League. The bid application has been made and currently we are awaiting confirmation from the AIFF and the bid evaluation committee for the green signal. It will be a major boost for Chennai Football if the Federation accepts our application which has always been our aim from the starting,” he mentioned.
The AIFF’s Bid Evaluation Committee will meet on Wednesday in Delhi.
