Jacob Gillard10 Nov 2016The moment Shaqkyra Quinn and Holly Beecroft have been waiting for all year has almost arrived: The chance to represent Australia on the world stage.
The pair will be flying to Brazil next week to represent us, touring the country with Australia’s U15s futsal side.
They’re in the country for three weeks, first heading off to Sao Paulo for training with some of the world’s best futsal coaches, then to Belo Horizonte for matches, and finally to Rio De Janeiro for more games and sightseeing.
It’s been a long time coming for the pair and back when their spots on the team were announced they were ecstatic.
“It is like a religion over there and it will be great to go up against these top line players,” Shaqkyra said previously.
Holly and Shaqkyra are keen to take in the sights as well, and are excited to visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer and the country’s plentiful beaches after they finish their games.
Holly plays for Nepean in Sydney while Shaqkyra is part of Western Mariners.
“We’re used to travelling by now for games, so we’re very excited,” Holly said.
Holly’s father, Joe, will be travelling alongside her and Shaqkyra has her mother and grandmother coming along for what is sure to be the trip of a lifetime.
The Lithgow Mercury wishes them all the best and hopes they can bring it home for Lithgow and Australia.
