City Futsal star ready for Germany

York City Futsal's recent signing Robbie Bettson is really looking forward to representing England when taking on their old rivals Germany.

Bettson has already scored five goals in three games since joining the Minstermen from Middlesbrough over the summer, including a match-winning hat-trick during their latest 5-3 victory at Tranmere Rovers.

England have a couple of games lined up against Germany at the Inselparkhalle in Hamburg over the next few days, with the first of them on Sunday afternoon and second, early evening on Tuesday.

"It's a great honour to be selected again after making my debut in the last game v Finland in Norwich, where we won 2-1," Bettson told us. "I'm excited at the prospect of playing in front of 2500 fans as Germany have sold out the arena already, and I believe our squad should be confident of winning but have to be prepared for the atmosphere we will encounter.

"The strong start to the season at York City has put me in a great position ahead of this international break," he added. "I'm very thankful to the staff at York, especially Bo and Chris our S&C coaches who have helped me overcome a couple of injuries by improving my physical conditioning."

Bettson's highly-rated York team are currently top of FA National Futsal Super League North Division Two, although they may actually relinquish that position while without a game this weekend.

Either Durham or second-placed Loughborough Academy could replace them at the summit as they meet at Gateshead Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Tranmere, in third, are similarly candidates and travelling to Manchester - with City next in action when visiting early title rivals Loughborough on 13th November.
