Ballarat youngsters represent Australia in futsal

27 Oct 2016

Two Pleasant St Primary School pupils and best mates will represent Australia in a series of New Zealand futsal tournaments.

Oscar Cherry and Max Bedggood are members of the Australian under-10 boys’ team embarking on a 12-day tour, which is based in Auckland.

The 10-year-olds, who are Year 4, are in their fifth year of playing the sport at the Ballarat Futsal Centre.

They were selected to wear Australian colours after representing Vic Country at the national championships in Sydney in January, when Cherry was also named in the event’s all-star five.

In Ballarat the youngsters play in an under-10 representative team in an under-13 competition and are part of the Ballarat Futsal Centre state league team.

Cherry and Bedggood each said they were excited about meeting and testing their skills against new players.

They said they enjoyed playing attacking futsal and in particular scoring – something they hoped to do plenty of in the games in New Zealand.
