Academy Implements Futsal

Friday, 14 October 2016

RANGERS Academy have continued to improve the offering for youth players by implementing a futsal programme for youth players on the day release programme.

Futsal is the only small sided game sanctioned by, and recommended by, FIFA and UEFA and it meets the requirements for teaching players the tactical concepts and skills that are compatible with the traditional outdoor game.

David McCallum, who has responsibility for developing the school day release programme at the club thinks the development of skill through the use of futsal will help with the improvement of the youngsters and in acclimatising them to the Rangers style of play.

He said: “Our style of play includes playing at a high tempo and pressing. The way in which the game is played it assists in developing this style whilst exposing our players to lots of 1v1 situations and combination play.

“We were delighted to have Ritchie Wilson from the SFA along to provide an insight to the game and the benefits through delivering an interactive presentation, practical session and answering questions along the way.”
