League table and awards from Honda HFL Week 6

The race for the Honda HFL title took an interesting turn after Week 6.

12 Oct 2016

Week 6 of the Honda HFL was full of excitement and entertainment as we saw the big guns come up against each other on Super Saturday and 5 derby games on Derby Day Sunday. Hexa United maintained their advantage by going 6 points clear this week and also beat one of their major threats, The Invincibles, 2-0 in an extremely hard fought match.

Team of the Week – Deccan Sporting
Friends FC, powered by Froogal, produced the shock result of this week in their Derby against Rossoneri after they managed a 1-0 win without two of their top goal scorers. The team of the week, however, were Deccan Sporting after they secured a draw against Rossoneri on Super Saturday in a game where they were a goal behind and then a victory against The Invincibles 2-1 in the derby to stir themselves clear of their closest competitors and climb into the third spot.

Deccan currently look like the only team that are capable of catching up to the league leaders Hexa United and with games in hand, they are in prime position to secure second spot and qualify for the IFCL.

Player of the Week – Akash Elichipuram
Week 6’s Player of the Week was awarded to Akash Elichipuram from The Allegiance powered by Menu Home Cooked,Turfside and SportsJun.Akash, a mid-season transfer window signing from Blasters United has been in top form ever since he joined the new team. In what has been an incredible run of form for him, Akash managed an incredible 5 goals in one game against The Gunners this week and won 2 Man of the Match awards in 3 games, the most important of those coming away from home against arch-rivals Nemesis on Super Saturday.

Manager of the Week – Vivek Jonnalagadda
Best Captain/ Manager of the Week went to Vivek Jonnalagadda from The Allegiance powered by Menu Home Cooked,Turfside and SportsJun. Vivek did a great job rallying his troops after 2 poor results last week and motivated them to win all 3 of their games by huge margins. Led by Vivek, The Allegiance managed to hit 4 past the miserly defense of The Nemesis away from home, a game they ended up winning 4-1.Things are so tight between the top 8 teams with just 2 more weeks to go in the Honda HFL that it’s impossible to predict who will finish in the top 3 spots.
