Greg ChrapekSeptember 30, 2016GRANDVILLE – Grandville senior Jerman Juarez is a player who just can’t get enough soccer.
Along with leading the Grandville boys soccer team this season, Juarez spends his free time playing the growing game of futsal.
In his second season on the varsity, Jerman is impact player for the Bulldogs, both with his play and his leadership. On the field, Jerman is a talented player who is a catalyst for the Bulldog offense.
Jerman has outstanding goal-scoring skills and is also a creator who is just as effective in setting up his teammates. Jerman boasts a well-rounded game and can be counted on to do whatever the team needs from him.
“Jerman is one of the most versatile players that we have on our team,” said Grandville coach Paul Derks. “He is very technically-sound and he leads our team in goals and assists.”
Jerman’s skills as a playmaker forces opponents to key their defense to stop him. Lining up at either forward or the center attacking position, Juarez is able to draw numerous defenders to him.
“Jerman is very difficult to defend,” Derks said. “He draws defenders to him, which naturally allows other people to be open.”
Along with playing soccer, Jerman also plays the game of futsal. Similar to soccer, futsal is played indoors on a smaller area. A fast-paced game, futsal is popular in Central and South America, and is growing in popularity in the United States.
“Jerman is a very passionate player who love soccer,” Derks said. “In the offseason, he focuses on futsal. He recently made the Team USA U18 Futsal Team.”
Juarez scored a goal for Team USA in the semifinals of the World Futsal Championships, along with being a member of the USA U18 team that traveled to Columbia this year.
