Tuoitre NewsVietnam depart Futsal World Cup with heads held high21/09/2016Despite ending their 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia with a 0-7 defeat by Russia on Wednesday, Vietnam can keep their heads up, having advanced to the round of 16 in their first-ever appearance.
It was little surprise that Vietnam were trounced by the world No.3, with the Russians easily netting four goals in the first half.
Russia quickly settled the game with three more goals in the second half, despite the intense defensive tactics employed by the Vietnamese throughout the match.
The Colombia tournament is the first-ever FIFA Futsal World Cup appearance by the Vietnamese futsal team, who rank 42nd worldwide.
Leaving the tournament having reached the final 16 is an achievement the team can be proud of.
In their first two games in Group C last week, Vietnam won 4-2 over Guatemala before losing 1-7 to Paraguay.
