Falcao claims record as prolific Brazil stay perfect

17 Sep 2016

Holders Brazil maintained their unblemished record at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 and reached double figures for the second successive game with an imperious 15-3 victory over Mozambique.

The already-eliminated Africans had no answer to the skill, speed and finesse of their South American rivals, for whom eight different players were on target. Falcao was the last and most notable of those, grabbing a late hat-trick to become the Futsal World Cup's all-time leading scorer.

For all the misery that awaited them, Mozambique actually created the game's first clear chance inside 30 seconds, but missed - and found themselves behind just 14 seconds later. Rodrigo started the goal rush and he went on to score another, while Dieguinho and Xuxa also grabbed braces as Brazil raced into an 8-1 half-time lead.

There was no let-up in the second period either as Bateria and Ari took Brazil into double figures before all eyes, not for the first time, turned to Falcao. He kept everyone waiting until the 35th minute but two penalties took him past the existing record and he went on to complete another hat-trick with his 45th Futsal World Cup goal - all within the space of three minutes.

The reigning champions and their record-breaking star will now march on to face one of the best third-placed teams on 21 September in Bucaramanga and, on the evidence so far, the spectators there should be looking forward to that prospect a great deal more than Brazil's opponents.
