Two-time champions Spain came from behind to defeat European opponents Azerbaijan 4-2 to make it two wins from two at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.
Carrying momentum from their opening 5-0 win over Morocco, debutants Azerbaijan picked up right where they had left off from Monday when Vassoura scored a long-range goal within the first four minutes.
Spain then found a way back, though, when Bebe's corner kick took a deflection off Azerbaijani goalscorer Vassoura and found its way into the bottom corner of the goal. Vassoura then found himself on the wrong side of the scoresheet once again with six minutes left to the break, when he inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper Rovshan Huseynli. Vassoura's two own goals represented only the third time at a Futsal World Cup that the same player had done so in the same match.
Azerbaijan, however, have Huseynli to thank for keeping them in the match as he made several crucial saves in Medellin. His save on a long-range volley from Aicardo was particularly impressive.
In the second half, Spain showed their experience and were organised in defence, forcing Azerbaijan to maintain possession in their own half and reducing any significant goalscoring chances. Fernandao and Miguelin then gave the Spaniards a three-goal cushion in the second half with their goals. Thiago Bolinha scored a consolation late on for Azerbaijan and they will now have to find a route to the knockout stages on the final matchday.
In the final games in Group F on Sunday, Azerbaijan will face Iran in Medellin, while Spain has a meeting with Morocco in Bucaramanga.
