Wicked Local - WatertownWatertown resident makes US Youth Futsal National TeamMarc Kim was recently selected for the U.S. Youth Futsal National Team (U11 – 2005) after a tryout event in Gardner, Kansas from July 7-9.
Kim started playing soccer at 7-years-old and gradually advanced from town soccer, town travel team, camps to playing in an elite team in a local soccer club based in Newton, MA.
According to Kim, his passion for soccer is fueled by his father who grew up in Germany and has been playing soccer all his life. Marc’s father is his personal coach and he instructs Marc through practices, drills, scrimmages, and sharing the understanding of soccer game.
Futsal is a vital supplemental part of every soccer player in New England and Northeast region because of climate conditions during winter. Since not many club teams have their own indoor facilities where an indoor soccer league could exist, most of club teams practice futsal and play futsal league and tournament during winter.
Eventually, Marc was recommended by his coach to participate in U.S. Youth Futsal Northeast Region Futsal I.D. camp in October 2015.
The U.S. Youth Futsal National Team Coaching Staff evaluated him during the three day practices and games sessions.
An event is being planned for later this year for his national team.
Kim also attended the New England Revolution Academy Training Center Invitation in May 2016 where he enjoyed a training session conducted by its youth development coaching staff.
Kim’s near future goal is to join the New England Revolution Academy team and US Youth Soccer National Team. His dream is eventually to play professional soccer in Europe. In his free time, he enjoys to read books and play video games. Kim also likes math and playing violin.
