Allison FarrandAugust 29, 2016GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The 39th annual Hispanic Festival brought music, food and a 3-on-3 futsal tournament to Calder Plaza this past weekend.
The festival was presented by the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan and sponsored by a number of businesses, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Meijer and McDonald's.
Ottawa Avenue was shut down in front of Calder Plaza to host a 3-on-3 futsal tournament, a variant of soccer played on a smaller court, often indoors or on a hard surface.
The festival has taken place in September in previous years, but moved to August to take advantage of summer tourism before most schools begin.
The Hispanic Center of Western Michigan, based in Grand Rapids, provides a wide range of services, including a bilingual preschool, immigration advocacy and interpretation.
