The 16-year-old impressed selectors in January during the national championships in Sydney, where he was part of the Victorian side.
He was one of 35 players selected from the tournament to trial for the national side, and was the only Victorian selected in the final 16.
The Ballarat High School student traveled to Brisbane to train earlier in the year, and will now head to Newcastle for the side’s final training session on home soil before flying out to Scotland on September 1.
The Australians will have their work cut out for them in Dundee, with heavyweights Spain, Portugal and Brazil all taking part in the competition which runs parallel to the open-age world cup in Colombia.
Dawson will not be the only Ballarat representative however, with Victorian director of coaching Corey Smith joining the side as joint-coach.
