Canberra TimesCanberra Olympic's Angelo Konstantinou to play FIFA Futsal World CupAugust 13, 2016Canberra Olympic captain Angelo Konstantinou is setting himself to represent Australia at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia next month.
The former Canberra Cosmos goalkeeper has shown no signs of winding down his career. As well as his Futsalroos commitments, Olympic have a league title to try and win, a finals campaign, and also a FFA Cup round of 32 match later this month.
The Futsalroos team is selected next week, and if Konstantinou is included then he will miss the tail end of the Capital Football finals.
"You don't know what the coaches are thinking but I've done enough to hopefully make the squad," he said.
"We have a couple of days in Columbia before the first game on September 11. I will miss the semis [in Canberra], I think I'm eligible for one of the semi games but I will miss the rest of the games if we go through."
Konstantinou's passion for football is clear, and he said he wants to play as much as he can until he can't play at all.
"I still love football, you do it for as long as you can otherwise you regret it."
In Olympic's 60 years it is unlikely the club has had a season as busy or potentially as fruitful as this current one.
They head into the final week of the local league with the possibility of surpassing leaders Cooma Tigers.
"It's going to be interesting because Cooma is on top but if we both win our remaining games then it will come down to goal difference," said Konstantinou. "We're still in with a shot, it's just up to us how we go."
The Tigers will be hoping a big win over the tricky Tuggeranong United on Sunday will put the goal difference out of reach of Olympic and secure the title.
Olympic will then set their sights on further FFA Cup glory when they take on Brisbane's Redlands United on August 24 at Deakin Stadium.
