Luca Ranocchiari - Futsalplanet.com editorMemories are there, lost in some St. Petersburg's street. But looks like things are gonna change again quite soon, maybe already in June.
The first ever "experimental"
UEFA Futsal Championships Under 21 celebrated in 2008 and conquered by hosts Russia found no heir for such a long time, but good news are coming from the UEFA headquarters, even though we will have to wait for official and definitive confirmations.
Anyway, if the "sweet dreams of June 2016" will come true we will enjoy two brand new challenges played under UEFA aegis, and this could be just the first "impulse" given in order to support youth futsal and players formation.
Women Futsal: a
four nations tournament Under 17 featuring
Portugal, Spain, Italy and
Sweden could take place in Portugal (likely to happen in Oliveira de Azeméis, a well-known place having already hosted the Women Futsal World Cup 2012).
But there's room for
Under 18 boys as well:
Czech Republic could host a
4 nations challenge with the host country, as well as
Slovakia, Hungary and
Poland.
The next idea (and probably... step) is to go on in this process with Under 19 tournaments.
An ideal step to get ready also for the
Youth Olympics Games 2018 to be celebrated, featuring futsal, in Buenos Aires.
Players formation (youth futsal in general) is one of the main keys of futsal development... so this is, if confirmed, a huge step taken by
UEFA!. Let's see, sweet June is coming soon!
