footballaustralia.com.auAussie ref returns from successful AFC Futsal ChampionshipsAustralian FIFA Futsal referee Chris Colley has returned to Australia after a successful performance at the 2016 AFC Futsal Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 10 – 21 February 2016.Colley finished the tournament with an appointed to the Semi Final between host nation Uzbekistan and Thailand. Pleased with his performances in Uzbekistan Colley said his focus would now turn to the upcoming F-League season.
“I met most of the performance goals I set myself prior to the Championships. I felt my good during the Championships and was fortunate to be appointed to the Semi Final between Uzbekistan (the host nation) and Thailand in front of a very full, parochial crowd, he said.
"The international schedule is very heavy this year, however my focus is on the upcoming National F-League season. With the Futsalroos outstanding qualification for the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia the F-League shapes up to be very competitive for players.
"From my perspective I need to ensure I am mentally and physically prepared to meet the challenges of the upcoming season.”
Remarkably 2016 marked Colley’s sixth appointment to the AFC Futsal Championships, having refereed at the 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 editions, the highlight being his appointment to the Final in 2014.
“The tournament is more professional now which is a testament to the AFC and their development of Futsal within the region. I’m confident that as the quality of the tournament improves AFC will ensure we as referees will continue to grow and develop and continue to perform on the international stage,” Colley concluded.
