Boro Smash Loughborough to go TopBoro futsal opened the 2015-16 Super League season in style with a comprehensive 11-1 victory of Loughborough at Middlesbrough Sports Village.
It was Jamie Bettson's first match in charge and what a way to mark his debut after a Summer of change at the club and despite going 1-0 down, Bettson's side were in control. Two own goals turned the game around and 2-1 at half time gave Boro something to build on.
In the second half Boro came out flying and were 6-1 up within 4 minutes of the restart. Roberts, Bettson, Bulmer and McGee all getting on the scoresheet. With the game in Boro's hands and Loughborough attacking to reduce the deficit, the home side were able to pick off Loughborough and Roberts, Boro's all time leading scorer bagged 4 to put the game to bed and the Teessiders top of the league.
Jamie Bettson said: "Today was a great victory for the players. This performance demonstrates how much they can achieve if they continue to apply themselves as they have done over the last 4 weeks.
It's my belief we have taken significant strides as a team over pre-season.
We have laid foundations of a playing philosophy which came to fruition on Sunday. It was obvious the players have bought into what we are doing.
I would be delighted if the efforts of the players are recognised locally and see support for this young team flourish.
We have Robbie Bettson, Mikey McGee, Josh Clark, Dylan McAvoy and Adam Byron all representing the country at full international or youth international levels. Theres great scope for more to follow through our academy and I hope a promising start to the season can encourage more youngsters to get involved with the game of Futsal.."
Boro have a break now until 4th October when they take on newcomers University of Nottingham away but can be happy with the start. The club has a full academy set up and is open to all ages and abilities. For more information visit Borofutsal.com.
