Women’s Futsal Cup – Group Stage ReportThe
Women’s World Futsal Cup, a new competition created exclusively for female players organised by
USAFutsal, began on Friday 26th June. The two games to kick off the event were WSFL Flames (Australia) v SegoSala (Spain) and Alovera (Spain) v Gamer Futsal (USA).
This year is the inaugural edition with a showcase senior category of international sides and a smaller youth section with clubs exclusively from Spain. Future editions will feature international representatives in all age groups and any club can participate.
The senior division was split into two groups. Group A consisted of Benfica (Portugal), Gamer Futsal and Alovera and Group B featured Atletico Madrid (Spain), WSFL Flames and Segosala. Benfica and Atletico Madrid won all their games to win their groups. Alovera and Segosala took the other points in their respective groups to take runners-up sport and a place in semi-final.
All the action took place in the spectacular Palacio Multiusos, a world class venue with a seating capacity of 6,000, in Guadalajara, Spain was chosen. It has hosted events including 2010 Spanish Futsal Cup and 2013 World Men’s Handball Championships.
One of the objectives of the event is to promote the women’s game, which can often be neglected, and for this reason live streaming of all the game has been made available at pasionmc.com. The Women’s World Futsal Cup has already received a lot of media attention, especially locally, and seen the attendance of men´s Spanish internationals Adrián Alonso Pereira ‘Pola’, Paco Sedano and José Ruiz.
The final day will kick off with simultaneous semi-finals at 09.00CET with Benfica v Segosala and Atletico Madrid v Alovera. After there will be a youth competition before the 3rd Place Playoff at 12.00CET and the winners of the semi-final face-off to claim the title at 13.30CET. The final will be streamed live across the world through pasionmc.com.
