Interview with Tomasz Aftanski – EUSA Technical Delegate

Tomasz Aftański (POL) is the EUSA Technical Delegate for futsal. Several months before the 10th European Universities Championship in futsal he agreed to answer a few questions, exclusively for the participants of the event, which will be held in Poznań.

To start with, tell us a few words about yourself.

It is always the most difficult task, when you have to speak about yourself. I have been a man of futsal for more than fifteen years, mostly in the role of a futsal coach. In the past, not long-gone, I was the coach of the Polish National Team, the U-21 Polish National Team and the University Team of Poland; I took the 4th place of the 2006 World University Futsal Championships with the Polish students. I coached various futsal teams in Poland and – as the only Polish coach in that role until now – abroad. I am the author of the first Polish futsal handbook and a university teacher. Nowadays I am coaching the University of Gdańsk Futsal Ladies Team and I work as a marketing manager in a big company selling electricity.

How long have you been the EUSA Technical Delegate?

I have been connected with EUSA as the TD or Assistant TD since futsal EUC in Wrocław, in 2007. I began to work together with Patrik Perosa, being his assistant then, and we successfully cooperate until now.

Are you really happy to manage the EUC in Poland in the role of TD for the first time?

As I mentioned, I already co-managed the futsal EUC in Wrocław, and the Championship in Poznan rather marks my come back to the home country, after a few years of managing EUC abroad. But yes, I am really glad that the 2015 EUC takes place in Poland, because I can undoubtedly expect a high level of its organization here. Besides, Poznań, the 2015 host, is a beautiful and lively city, especially in the summer, and I expect that all EUC participants will be glad with their stay here.

Do you really expect the number of 40 university teams to show up in Poznań, just as many as the Organizing Committee is ready to accept?

I think that the participation of 40 teams (24 men’s and 16 women’s) is quite a real scenario. Futsal is the most popular sports discipline among students. And Poznań is a modern city, easily reachable by plane, train and motorway and it guarantees all students a good time between matches. Besides, Poznań is widely known for an excellent organization and… for its futsal spectators and supporters; I believe they will surely fill the Championship tribunes, even in the middle of the summer.

What are your wishes for the organizers and participants of the futsal EUC in 2015?

Well, for the organizers: be spoilt for choice – of teams, volunteers and sponsors as well. And for the participants: I wish you all wonderful time and fantastic atmosphere, as well as leaving Poznań with unforgettable memories, not only related to sports.

Thank you for an interview.
