In the second day of action at the
World Futsal Cup the remaining group matches took place followed by the games to decide the finalists, with the championship finals to be played tomorrow. FC Barcelona and Rivas ‘95, both from Spain, were the two strongest clubs in the group phase as they both topped all the groups they were involved in.
Benfica from Potugal topped the other group ahead of Escolla Futsal from England. The American sides, City Futsal and San Jose, also did well finishing second in their respective groups. The top sides went to the next round where they competed for a place in the final.
The semi-final results resulted in FC Barcelona and Rivas ’95 reaching the final to decide who will be the champions in the Alevin, Infantil and Cadete categories. Both teams originate from Spain highlighting the level of youth futsal in the country which is hosting the competition. With Rivas ’95 based in Madrid the result is three mouth-watering ‘Classicos’, the name by which games between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are known.
The Alevin, Infantil and Cadete finals will be played concurrently with the Juvenil final following as the showpiece game. In this contest two of the world’s biggest clubs will battle it out with both FC Barcelona and Lisbon’s Benfica reaching the championship game. The tournament will be concluded with the closing ceremony where the awards will be presented including those for fairplay and top goalscorer.
