Boro win North East Futsal CupMiddlesbrough Futsal Club were crowned champions of the North East on Wednesday after a 6-1 win over National League rivals Teesside.
Celebrated as part of Freshers' Week at Teesside University, the final capped off a day of recruitment for the university's futsal club. Over 40 players tried out for Teesside University Futsal Club - the most successful university team in the UK - and will try to return to the top of university futsal.
Supported by Middlesbrough Futsal Club, the uni side will be an integral part of the pathway for the newly crowned North East Champions, where so many of the current first team players started their futsal career.
One of those, Mikey Roberts, captain of Boro was delighted to see so many people get involved.
"I enjoyed my time at the uni. We played twice in Europe and won the national title twice in my three years and it's great to see the next generation of student getting involved. They could go on to play for Boro or even England if they do well," said Roberts.
"It was also nice to win the first North East Futsal Cup, which will give us some confidence for the start of the season."
Teesside University Futsal Club, not to be confused with the club side Teesside, will start their season on October 11th in a regional league for The FA Futsal Cup. Teams are still being recruited for the league and you can enter whether a team, or a group of friends wanting to start.
