Birmingham Futsal Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Catalan (Spanish) Futsal Coach, Ernest Cardona.

Ernest Cardona will coach the men’s first team this upcoming season.

Following a proposal from Ikhlaq Hussain (Chairman of Birmingham Futsal Club) to come and coach in England, Cardona accepted the offer to pass-on his existing knowledge of the game to the players.

The coach has experienced what it’s like to coach and play in a Spanish Futsal league at very high level, having coached ‘A.E. Les Corts UBAE’ to victory in 2013 in the Copa Catalunya. The following year saw his team narrowly miss out a consecutive cup win when they were defeated by Barcelona in the final. Having been a player for Barcelona’s Futsal B team and Hospitalet Bellsport, Coach Cardona knows all too well the work that will be required to get his players to be at their very best. We should also point out that Coach Cardona, as a player, was selected to play for the Catalan National Futsal squad at u19 and u20 level.

As expressed in an interview, Cardona would like to teach the players to become more adventurous and imaginative in attacking play, hopefully enabling an increase in goals scored next season.

“I started coaching in Spain because as a player I was a natural leader, I was also able to control how the team played. Consequentially, I thought that coaching was the next step in my career.”

The Coach’s first impressions of the players are very positive and believes the players have the capability to win the Super-league next season.

It is without doubt Ernest Cardona will dedicate an immense amount of time and effort in the form of coaching to allow these young Futsal players to fulfill their potential.

With all the knowledge and experience that Cardona brings to the club, it won’t just be the players benefiting, it will be just as important for the current coaches to learn from him.
