FUTSAL WEEK YOUTH TRAINING CAMP an outstanding success

Memorable experience had by the participants from around the world …
The first ever FUTSAL WEEK Youth Futsal Training Camp, held on the picturesque Croatian coastal town of Zadar, has taken place and received outstanding feedback from all the participants. The week consisted of training sessions, matches and a tournament alongside fun activities.

The camp attracted an international roster with players between the ages of 14-20 years old from Italy, Spain, USA as well as all over Croatia. The instructors for the camp were of a high calibre and included Mico Martic; Head Coach of Finland National Team and Croatian Champions Alumnus, Matija Capar; Croatian International & Alumnus, Doug Reed; England International & English Champions Baku United and the experienced Marco Simurina, former Croatian international.

Each day the players had 2 training sessions covering several topics including fundamental techniques in defence & attack, playing with the pivot, transitions, team defence and movements off the ball. A short theory lesson was also provided to extend the players knowledge of the game. They had the chance to put into practice what they learnt with organised matches and a tournament.

To ensure the players had a well-rounded experience there were several fun and social activities provided. This included a fun 3v3 tournament with small goals which the coaches joined in and was won by Mico Martic’s side after an incredible hattrick by the former Croatian captain. The group also visited the historic city centre, went swimming and an excursion. With the beach just 1 minute walk from the accommodation many of the players took advantage of this during their free time.

There was also a special visit from one of the world’s leading futsal players, Ukraine captain Maxym Pavlenko. He observed two of the sessions and the players had an opportunity to take a photo with him. Another special guest was Alan Sinovcic, fitness coach of Alumnus in Croatia, who took the players through a futsal specific warm up.

This type of event does not only aim to make the participants better players. It also has the objective to develop the participants on a personal level. All the players immediately integrated well with each other from the moment they met, with language or background not being a barrier, in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Friendships were formed between all the players and there was a great rapport between the players and coaches with everyone enjoying spending time in each other’s company and laughing together.

At the end of the camp feedback was sort from the participants. Many commented on how their futsal game had improved from the training sessions and the individual advice given by the experienced coaching team. In addition they mentioned how they had made friends, improved their language skills and enjoyed the local sites. It was no doubt an experience that improved them both as futsal players and as people. The players gave an overall satisfaction level of over 95%.

The camp cost was just 300 euros for 6 days and included food and accommodation. It must be viewed as exceptional value, especially considering the level of coaching the players were provided with. Plans for the 2015 edition are already underway with many ideas proposed to improve the camp even further. The next event for the FUTSAL WEEK team will be the Senior & Youth Tournament that is to be held in the same location during the month of August.
