Pniewy are back in the Polish elite ...
Pniewy are back in the Polish elite

When two seasons ago the three times Polish Champion Akademia FC Pniewy announced the withdrawal from the competition, it was a disaster for futsal fans all over Poland and especially their domestic town Pniewy.

Fortunately this was not the end of futsal for this town. A local team called Red Dragons Pniewy which was playing in the 3rd futsal league decided to continue the tradition and after only two years they had just won the 2nd league (with even two more games to go) and promoted to polish futsal 1st league (Futsal Ekstraklasa). This is a spectacular success especially if you look at the average age of the players which is 21 years.

The team coach is Łukasz Frajtag who is also an active player of the team. The 30 year old coach is developing his coaching skills every year with bigger achievements every season. One of the team’s best players is a 21 year old goalkeeper Maciej Foltyn who previously played in the Akademia FC Pniewy team for three seasons winning the title three times in a row. Rest of the team is complex with players in the age of 17-21 and three of them are actual U-21 National Team players.

Red Dragons Pniewy is an excellent example how you could work with young players giving them the opportunity to develop fast and the full trust in their skills.

“I have the pleasure to work with these boys for 3-4 years now. When we started they mostly had poor futsal skills. Every year they developed and we gave them all they needed to learn futsal. After few years we can see that hard work brought what we expected. Very important was to create training sessions that could give them opportunity to bring their skills to a higher level. This is also a big reward for me as a coach that all my work brought the desired effect. A young player is learning very fast and it is easier to create a young player than to develop older players but you have to be careful not to make mistakes that can bring to lack of development. Now we will do our best to keep up the good work and try to stay in the polish first league for more than one season.” – Lukasz Frajtag, head coach.

“The withdrawal of Akademia FC was a disaster for futsal fans in Pniewy. We decided that the tradition cannot be wasted and created a young ambitious team which main goal was to get back to the polish futsal elite. Our plan was to do this in 5-6 years. Nobody expected that we will develop so fast and just after 3-4 years win the 2nd league. We are aware that “Futsal Ekstraklasa” is a strong professional league and we will do our best to organize the finances and logistics well. But I thing that we are very determined and in the end will remain in the elite. Regards to all futsal fans and remember – Futsal Is Better!“ – Rafal Gnybek, team manager.
