FAW.org.ukThe Wales Futsal squad will face England in an International friendly fixture at the Cardiff City House of Sport on Sunday 23rd March 2014.
The game will provide a great chance for the people of Wales to cheer on the team against neighbouring rivals England, in what will surely be a thrilling event. Spectators will see the official five a side version of the football first hand and witness the intensity and excitement it can offer. The Wales Deaf Futsal squad will also do battle with their English counterparts in what should be a fantastic afternoon of International Futsal in the capital.
The fixture will be the second ever home international Futsal international for Wales after previously hosting Andorra in October 2013. The Wales squad are still very new to the International stage but have shown very encouraging performances against vastly more experienced opponents. England will prove tough opponents with experience from over eighty internationals previously however the young Welsh dragons will be keen to avenge a very narrow 1 – 0 defeat twelve months ago.
The fixture will provide good preparation for Wales as they get ready for UEFA Futsal EURO’s qualifiers in January 2015. The squad will take a great deal of encouragement from recent performances where they were in winning positions against both Andorra and Moldova only to suffer narrow defeats in the dying moments of the game
Head Coach Richard Gunney believes the squad is progressing well and is confident that the game will be an exciting encounter “The squad have developed extremely well over a very short period of time. The players are gathering valuable experience both on the domestic and international stage which is making them better equipped to deal with the demands of a Futsal International. The team have been extremely competitive and been agonisingly close in most of our previous internationals. With more experience I am confident the players are on the cusp of turning these encouraging performances into the victories they deserve.”
The games will take place at the Cardiff City House of Sport, on the 23rd March 2014.
