Zanzeer SinghSaturday, February 08, 2014An effort is being made to revive futsal in Lautoka.
A five a-side tournament will be held at the South Seas Club ground next week to kick start the sport.
The futsal competition was popular amongst the business house teams in previous years. However no tournaments were organised last year.
Former Lautoka Football Association vice president Faiaaz Ali is organising next week's event.
According to Ali, a total prize purse of $1,000 would be at stake.
He said the first 32 teams would be accommodated.
"The South Seas Club bowling green has been turned into a futsal pitch," Ali said.
"There is no local league competition in Lautoka. So the clubs are most welcome to participate in this tournament.
"Teams from other districts are also invited. The idea is to hold regular tournaments in a bid to generate interest in the sport."
A meeting for the team delegates will be held at the South Seas Club next Wednesday.
