NY Futsal kicks off season

New York Futsal kicked off its inaugural Premier Division last weekend at the Joan of Arc Middle School in Manhattan and the Roosevelt Island School in the Under-8 to U-11 age groups..

“Manhattan Kickers FC has been training and competing in futsal for almost a decade and we believe it is foremost a fun game that players and fans enjoy,” said Evan Rosenthal, Manhattan Kickers FC director of coaching. “To succeed in futsal, the structure implicitly demands good ability with the ball, quick speed of play and smart decisions. The small numbers also present players with simplified tactical situations that are easy to understand, compared to the outdoor game with many more variables. It is not only fun and exciting but our participation in New York Futsal has led to the best environment possible.”

The Premier Division performs on Sundays until March 16 with teams rotating into the division around their other previously scheduled games. Clubs playing in the Premier Division this winter include Albertson, Dutch Total Soccer, DV Academy, Manhattan Kickers and New York Stars Premier. League teams also are training for the futsal regionals to be played in Wildwood, N.J. from Feb. 15-17.

Having kicked off in 2010 with 24 teams, New York Futsal has more than 100 youth teams playing this winter.
