Sun StarCity's futsal team set for Davraa debutWednesday, February 5, 2014HOPES are high for the A.L. Navarro National High School (ALNNHS)-bannered Davao City futsal team that will make its debut in the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet that will open on Sunday at the Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Coach Raph Pehid said that futsal is a new addition in the Davraa Meet and they are glad to have been chosen to represent the city.
“We have been practicing since the school year started and we hope to grab the championship title,” he said.
Pehid said that the Special Program in Sports (SPS) of ALNNHS contributed a lot in the skills improvement of his team. “The SPS is a program of the Department of Education to institutionalize a program for sports and since SPS has been mandated in our school, my team has been dedicating a lot of time in practicing futsal,” he said.
He said that his team, composed of Grade 7, 8 and 9 students are very competitive to fight because of their teamwork and strong offense.
He said Compostela Valley Province and Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) may put up a strong contest because of their experience in football and futsal yet they are prepared to take on the challenge.
Davao City's team will be composed of Ruth Abanto, Jill Baylon, Anamae Bocal, Rhea Hazel Caballes, Mae Amor Caras, Julie Mae Carcasona, Riza Mae Eleguen, Gerelie Gualberto, Krystelle Malalis, Kristina Ogatis, Danah Sultan and Abegail Tapang with Mabelle Dandasan as team’s chaperon.
