Coosa Valley NewsFUTSAL academy start date postponed6/1/2014There is still time to sign up to participate in the Shorter Men`s Soccer`s Futsal academy! The weekly program, originally set to begin Tuesday, January 7, has been postponed by one week, and will begin next Tuesday, January 14. The men`s soccer program is starting a new youth soccer training program for the Rome community. We are bringing FUTSAL to Rome! What`s FUTSAL??? Futsal is the indoor version of soccer played by some of the greatest players of all time (Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to mention a couple). Futsal does not use walls for rebounding the ball into play and therefore forces players to control the ball at all times to maintain possession. Because of that, FUTSAL is a fantastic tool for footwork and skill development in general. Futsal is the only indoor soccer recognized by FIFA.
Training sessions will be run at the Winthrop-King Centre at Shorter University on every Tuesday in the months of January and February. Each player will receive professional soccer training with Shorter staff coaches and players led by Shorter`s head coach Paulo Neto. Sessions will consist of technical training focused on individual technical skills and futsal games.
This is not an attempt to compete with the variety of good youth soccer programs offered in the community but instead providing an extra opportunity to training, skill development and FUN in a time of the year when the regular youth soccer programs are in recess because of the weather. This is also a excellent opportunity to HS players to get ready for the upcoming season.
For more information contact coach Paulo Neto at pneto@shorter.edu or 423-489-9997.
