Rashneel KumarMonday, January 06, 2014A STAR-studded Frens United won the Nasinu Teachers College (NTC) Futsal club tournament at the FMF National Gymnasium in Laucala Bay, Suva on Saturday night.
The side, which had the services of former Fiji Futsal rep Sandeep Nair and Labasa striker Joseph Mishra, defeated Samba King 2-0 in the final.
Frens United, which walked away with a trophy and $300 prizemoney, overcame Bula Inkk Stallions 2-0 while Samba King defeated Shop N Save 3-2 in the semi-finals.
Bula Inkk Stallions had Suva reps Samuela Drudru and Jonas Naceva.
In the trophy competition which was played among the losers from the pool play, Narere reigned after beating Wainadoi II 2-0 in the final.
Wainadoi II defeated Jedis Nadawa Boys 2-0 while Narere overcame Lokia 2-1 in the semis.
Tournament organising committee member and NTC secretary Amitesh Prasad hailed the event a success.
"We had 16 clubs participating with teams coming as far as Nadroga and Navua. The competition level was quite high as well," he said.
"We thank Shop N Save for helping us stage this tournament and all the teams that participated.
"We are looking at making this an annual affair."
