The AGLA Squad Features Against UkraineEight AGLA ENDORSED players participated in the two friendly matches between Italy and Ukraine that took place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October at Pala San Quirico in Asti. The coach Roberto Menichelli called up goalkeepers STEFANO MAMMARELLA (Acqua & Sapone Emmegross) and DAVID PUTANO (ALTER EGO LUPARENSE) and outfield players MASSIMO DE LUCA (LC Usual Martina) , MARCO ERCOLESSI (Marca Futsal) , HUMBERTO HONORIO (ALTER EGO LUPARENSE) , ALEX MERLIM (ALTER EGO LUPARENSE) and RODOLFO FORTINO (Asti) plus goalkeeper coach MAURO CETERONI. The undoubted star of the two games was the new official AGLA BOLA FUTSAL. The brand from Marche is the kit and equipment supplier for the Divisione Calcio a 5 and provides the balls for the Italian team’s matches.
The region of Piedmont didn’t bring any luck after coming away with only one point, from a 2-2 draw in the 2nd game. The first game, which took place on Tuesday evening, was without any luck for the blues. Menichelli’s side was defeated 4-3 by the Ukranians. After the first skirmishes the guests went into the break 2-0 ahead and extended their lead to 3-0 in the 2nd half. The Azzurri tried to comeback, with goals by Saad and Lima making it 2-3, but were unable to equalise. The goal by Merlim on the buzzer only served to make it a less bitter defeat for the Italians. The AGLA TEAM were represented by MAMMARELLA, MERLIM and ERCOLESSI in the starting line-up, and HONORIO, FORTINO and DE LUCA.
AGLA ENDORSED MASSIMO DE LUCA told www.divisionecalcioa5.it after the friendly “It’s been a very bitter evening, we wanted to win and and unfortunately we didn’t succeed. I’m sorry for the many fans who came, but we tried really hard. Hopefully we can make it up on Wednesday night. In the first half it seemed they were much more physical than us and in the second half we gave a great reaction and scored 2 goals, after we tried with the fly goalkeeper. I think we gave a good performance in the second half, we have to take it from there; Get some rest and review what we did wrong and what we did well. Hopefully we will win. We cannot focus on a single game, we have done excellent on our journey so far; With Ukraine we went wrong, but we have lost to a good team, not a newcomer.
In the second game the blues had a better approach to the match but it was still Ukraine who opened the scoring. The reaction was immediate and, after a few good chances that were not converted into goals, a few seconds after the interval they drew level thanks to Lima who scored with an excellent chip. At the start of the 2nd half after some excellent goalkeeping by Miarelli, Italy took the advantage with a goal from MERLIM from the right wing. Two shots that hit the post prevented Menichelli’s men from putting the game beyond Ukraine. The visitors utilised the fly goalkeeper and found the equaliser with less than two minutes left on the clock. In the game DE LUCA and FORTINO were named in the starting line-up. HONORIO, MERLIM and ERCOLESSI were also involved but PUTANO remained on the bench.
MARCO ERCOLESSI, AGLA ENDORSED, gave his thoughts at the end of the game to www.divisionecalcioa5.it; “Compare to the first game we have grown but we are disappointed not to have got the victory. We’re are still a bit behind in preparation compared to Ukraine and when you are not at your best physically, the technical quality is not able to come out. Compared to the first game we have played better and they have had few chances. Our problem is we create a lot of chances and don’t convert them into goals. However I think it was a good performance. Eventually you are defeated every now and again and it helps you grow, to learn and improve from our mistakes. I am sure this is a good squad and will continue to demonstrate what it has always done in recent years. One game does not cancel out what good work we have done and will do. On Tuesday we were not flawless, we played one half in the full game. This evening we have made a good match, if we had scored half the chances we created the result would have been different.”
