He gives his views from Colombia ...
By Doug Reed @DougReedFutsal

At the Mini Club World Cup that took place in July in Kuwait FutsalPlanet took the opportunity to speak with Jefferson Moreno from Colombian side Atlético Huila. Futsal played under FIFA rules is still relatively new in Colombia with a league only setup three years ago.

However with the announcement that the 2016 World Cup will be held on their soil there is an effort being made to develop the sport. Here Morenson tells us about his experience of the Kuwait tournament, futsal in Colombia and his ambitions for the future.

What is your opinion on the level of the tournament?

I think that the level of the Kuwait Mini Club World Cup was that of an international tournament. I believe that the best futsal in the world was played during the games which were of a high level and created a great spectacle for the fans in the hall. I saw teams that played very elegantly and I saw some very good players. This gave me a positive impression of the tournament and I was left with a great experience. During the competition I met many people and learnt from them. This tournament made me feel that I can compete at an international level. What I love and motivates me is futsal and I am very grateful for the opportunity to attend the tournament.

How was the general experience of the tournament in terms of organisation, hospitality etc.?

As a sportsman I am left very satisfied and grateful with the treatment that the organisation and the people we met provided us with. I believe that the people that organised the event worked for a long time to ensure everything functioned in the best way and they achieved that, I am left with a great image of these people. The organisers are very passionate for futsal, which was evident from our arrival until our departure in the airport. I will never forget this experience and the people I met.

How is futsal in Colombia? Is it growing?

Colombian futsal is growing day to day. The Colombian player is very talented but still we need to organise ourselves better. It is important the federation give futsal the importance it deserves but they are doing some very important things. We are doing okay but we still have a long way to go. The league is very competitive and every day very good players emerge. This means there are more players that can be considered for the national team and, in a world context, we are already being recognised.

What was the reaction in the country when it was announced that Colombia will host the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup?

We believe it is very important for us and we are very happy to hold the most important event in futsal. The whole country has the highest expectations, and all the players want to be in the Colombian national team and be part of this World Cup. This World Cup will bring many positive things for Colombian futsal. It will mean more people fall in love with this sport and many companies will support this discipline. Therefore we see it as the best thing that can happen for futsal in Colombia.

What are the objectives for the team and yourself for the future?

Our club is remarkable because it was fortunate that in the last season it featured in two international tournaments and this generates confidence in the team. The idea is to be league champions again and add the most number of players to the Colombian national team.

My dream is to be part of the national team and be able to play in teams in Europe.
