Sergio Lozano wins Best Player
By Doug Reed @DougReedFutsal

The LNFS in Spain has announced the winners of their end of season awards with Barcelona Alusport’s Sergio Lozano taking the Best Player Award, Duda from El Pozo Murcia was named Best Coach and Lobelle’s Alan Brandi as Best New Talent.

It has been another successful season for Sergio Lozano and Barcelona despite the disappointment in the UEFA Futsal Cup. They achieved another triple; claiming La Liga, Copa de España and Copa del Rey trophies, with Lozano being a key factor in those successes. He was always a exceptionally promising young player with clear potential to be one of the best, he won FutsalPlanet's 2011 Young Player of the Year Award. Now he is now fulfilling all that potential, at both club and national level.

In recent years a reduced budget has meant El Pozo Murcia has lost many stars of world futsal and they have been replaced with younger players with less profile. However, with Duda at the helm, this has not stopped them being competitive. Every year they fight for all the titles, this year reaching the finals of La Liga, Copa de España, Copa del Rey and the Supercopa which they won. Duda’s reward has been a recently signed 3 year extension to his contract in Murcia which will, if completed, take him to 16 years as head coach of one of Spain´s most successful clubs.

Alan Brandi won Best New Talent in his first year in the Primera División. His is a fascinating story. Around five years ago he came to Madrid to study journalism and, having always played 11-a-side football, he searched for a team to play in. However he was too late and all the teams had finalised their squads. He decided instead to try for his university futsal team as they were holding trials. He quickly adapted to futsal but three years ago he was still playing in the 3rd Division. After a season playing for Inter Movistar´s B team he signed for Santiago Futsal last year after impressing on trial. His meteoric rise continues with claiming this prize.

Other notable winners include Kike, Best Defender, who was considering retirement but recently signed a 1 year extension with El Pozo. Despite the years passing by he has shown he still has a lot to offer the side from Murcia. Dani Salgado returned to his home club this year, Marfil Santa Coloma, and he certainly felt at home, recording 44 goals, ending a 13 year run of Brazilians taking this title.

The nominees for each award were decided through public voting via the LNFS website and other media. The coaches of the Primera División 12/13 teams had the final say, voting for their choice from the nominees previously selected.
