Iran claim Asian Indoor Games gold

Incheon: Asian futsal powerhouse Iran comfortably defeated reigning Asian champions Japan 5-2 to bag gold medal in the futsal event of the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games on Saturday.

Ali-Reza Vafayi scored two goals while Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh, Mohammad Taheri and Vahid Shafiee each managed to score once for the 11-time Asian champions.

Iran had advanced to the final match after comfortably defeating Iraq, the UAE, China and Thailand.

The finalists of AFC Futsal Championship 2012 Thailand managed bronze medal by defeating Kuwait 9-6 in an entertaining third-place playoff earlier on the day.

Japan’s women team won the gold medal in women’s event by beating Iran 2-1 in the final. The bronze medal for women’s competition also went to Thailand who defeated Indonesia 5-1.
