The NZF Futsal Roadshow

Futsal Whites to showcase their game in Wellington this weekend

July 4, 2013

AUCKLAND - The New Zealand Football Futsal Roadshow reaches Wellington for another free, fun-packed weekend of fast-paced action designed to showcase the game and attract more players to this fast-growing form of football. The weekend will be an opportunity to learn about futsal and for fans to see the Futsal Whites in action.

“The NZF Futsal Roadshow is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the game to come and see why it’s one of the fastest-growing forms of football worldwide. Futsal enables players to play the game throughout the year and for kids it’s a fun form of the game that also develops their skills,” said Dave Payne, Futsal Development Manager, New Zealand Football.

For those that want to know more about the game there will be a free Intro to Futsal course on the Friday evening that will be followed by the Futsal Whites taking on the Capital Football National Futsal league side in a best of two games series. The Capital side were runners up in the recent national league series, and the game is a great opportunity to see the national team in action.

Saturday kicks off with a fun Junior Festival and mini Youth Tournament followed by Game Two between the Futsal Whites and the Capital Football ASB National Futsal league side again. There will also be an opportunity to win some free goodies and grab autographs and photos from the Futsal Whites and stars from the Wellington Phoenix with Stein Huysegems and Luke Rowe scheduled to make an appearance.

The weekend finishes on the Sunday with a tournament made up of teams from Capital’s senior football Clubs, with the winning team given the rare opportunity to play against the Futsal Whites and pitch themselves against the best in New Zealand.

With the Capital Football Futsal season set to begin in October, the weekend is a great way for football Clubs looking to enter teams to see and experience Futsal first hand. “Teams and players don’t need to stop playing the game that they love simply because the season is over. Futsal offers the opportunity for teams to play all year round,” said Michael De Bono, Football Development Manager, Capital Football. “We have several leagues open to everybody; Men’s, Women’s, Junior, Youth and Mixed teams. Anybody interested should visit our website [www.capitalfootball.org.nz] to find out more about the Capital Football Futsal season.”

Futsal in Wellington continues later this month as the Futsal Whites take on the Futsal Roos in the ASB Trans-Tasman Cup. Run in conjunction with the ASB National Junior Festival and Youth Championships the tournament kicks off on Friday 19th July at the ASB Sports Centre.
