A house is built from the foundations and by laying one brick at a time. That is the philosophy of PORTO SAN GIORGIO, the club headed by President Daniel Urbani. They play in Serie B and have initiated a collaboration with AGLA to be their kit supplier.
The history of the team starts in 1995 with a group of friends affiliated with the football club Palmense. In 1997 they founded the club PORTO SAN GIORGIO. They started in Serie D and won promotion to Serie C1 and finally Serie B in 2011.
The club has seen various changes at the helm. The first president was Lucio Brunelli, who was succeeded by Daniel Urbani. Control then passed to Ivano Perosino and, in 2011, it went back to Urbani. Today PORTO SAN GIORGIO represents one of the most promising and resilient futsal clubs in the region of Marche.
Interview with President Urbani
You finished in the playoffs and were in the Final Eight of the Coppa Italia. Are you happy with the season?“Very satisfied. We had the best possible results. With regard to the playoffs, with the primary objective to stay in the league, we achieved it with little planning beforehand. In December, in fact, we had to make some changes to the team in relation to this goal. The Final Eight was the icing on cake.”
Could you have achieved more?“No. The boys gave everything. What I like is that this season each player has given at least ten percent more than they could. Nobody has anything left. We have created a tight group in which each component has always fought for the same goal.”
What are the club’s objectives?“Our coach says that if we raise the bar we end up running the risk of hitting the post. Joking aside, if I must speak as president, promotion to Serie A2 would become a nightmare. It would be too much because we are a club that is not accustomed to pulling back when we have to face new and more demanding challenges. When we won Serie C1 we decided to compete in Serie B, whilst recognising that there was a possibility of relegation. Luckily it did not stop there. If I must speak as a fan then Serie A2 is a dream. Above all I’d settle for reentering the playoffs, perhaps with a better league position.”
Is there a player that can lead Porto San Giorgio?"Humberto Honorio (AGLA representative) from Luparense but we have no money. It is more realistic to say Nico Sgolastra from Reggiana."
Do you have any regret during your time in futsal?“That too many players have passed through Porto San Giorgio and left closing the door. We started as a team of friends. Myself and Ivano (Perosino) played. When we decided to finish playing and hang up our shoes we went behind the desk to run the club. Many other players have not done the same. They preferred to continue playing at lower levels than enter the administration of the club and give us a hand. With their help we would have a stronger and bigger structure and could aspire to higher objectives.”
What is the reason you decided to begin a relationship with AGLA?"Because we think it's one of the best brands in futsal. We played with AGLA balls for over ten years and we know their quality. We have seen that the kit is a benchmark for this sport. Up until now there had never been an opportunity to work together and as soon as there was we jumped at it. Other brands called us but we chose AGLA”
What is your opinion on AGLA products?"They are great. Honestly."
AGLA, the futsal specialist. The brand from Marche has established itself with its professional products for the sport, both in Italy and around the world. Footwear, balls, clothing and accessories are preferred by players whenever they play futsal and receive their recognition due to the fact that they always enhance performance.
To support all the stores that have supplied and continue to supply AGLA equipment and at the same time promote and increase awareness of this wonderful sport of futsal, we created the AGLA SPECIALIST project that has been active for some years. It is structured package of benefits that AGLA offers thanks to the trust that has been built up with all those involved in futsal.
AGLA is collaborating with Divisione Calcio A 5 (Italian 1st Division) through the provision of equipment and they have initiated an interesting, innovative and experimental project called LO CALCIO 5. The project's objective is to start futsal schools through the clubs of Serie A, Serie A2 and Serie B. A 'Lo Calcio a 5 Technical Guide' has been produced that provides information of the technical fundamentals of futsal. The book has been illustrated with simple drawings, pictures and diagrams. AGLA is supporting this project with clothing and bags.
AGLA has also agreed a partnership with the L'UNIONE ITALIANA SPORT PER TUTTI and with CIRCUITO 24HR, two organisations that arrange futsal events in sport facilities located throughout the whole of Italy.
AGLA organises special events at stores called AGLA DAY. These aim is to provide information on AGLA products with the presence of AGLA PLAYERS. With over 100 of these it is an opportunity to find out about the players' direct experience of our products and all the various features they include.
