Kuwait is preparing to host what will be
one of the major futsal events of the year. 16 clubs from around the world will participate in a tournament with a
1st prize of $100,000.The tournament will be held during the month of Ramadam and its objective is to provide world class entertainment for the people of Kuwait during the month of fasting. Games will be held in Kuwait City's world class indoor sporting facility.
All games will be televised on the Arab channels Al Jazeera, Dubai Sports, Al Kass, MBC, Al Arabia, Bahrain Sport, Saudi Sports, Kuwait Television, Rai and Al Shahed. Plus 6 large screens will be placed around the city for spectators to follow the tournament and to promote the event. For the worldwide audience live streaming will be available online.
The company that organised the opening ceremony for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2006 Asian Games in Doha have been entrusted to do the same for this event.
The
tournament format will be 4 groups of 4 which will last 12 days. The 2 winners from each group will proceed to a knockout stage that will be played over a further 6 days.
The draw for the tournament was made on Tuesday 18th June and the groups are as follows
