By Kevin HartwellThe finalists that will compete for the Spanish title have been decided. Barcelona Alusport and El Pozo, a repeat of last year's final, will face each other in a best of five contest starting on Wednesday 12th June.
Barcelona defeated Caja Segovia 5-0 in the third game of the semi-finals to earn their place in the final. Meanwhile El Pozo went into extra time in their third game against Inter Movistar and, despite initially going behind, won 3-2.
The finalists have been the most dominant teams in Spain in recent times. This will be Barca's third consecutive league final, having won the last two. Barca will again be going for a triplet of trophies having already picked up the Copa del Rey and Copa de España this season.
For El Pozo it is their tenth final in the last twelve years and they are the team that has been in the most league finals in the history of the competition. More recently they have played four finals in the various domestic competitions over the last two years. Barca defeated them in three of these. However they started this season picking up the first silverware on offer, defeating Inter Movistar in the final of the SuperCopa de España.
Last year´s final went to the fifth game, with Barca managing to win in Murcia. This time it is Barca who have home advantage after finishign as leader in the regular season. This along with the fact that Barca have defeated El Pozo in the final of the Copa de España and Copa del Rey this year will make them marginal favourites. However this has little importance as these finals are always tense affairs and decided on small details.
