Santiago Futsal Press Department16 teams from around the world will compete from 16th JulySantiago Futsal has stated, as one of the principle objectives for this new stage, to internationalise the club. One of the strategic decisions has been to accept the invitation to participate in the 1st Mini Club World Cup that will take place in Kuwait this July. The tournament, with the backing of FIFA, aspires to be a competition that is a reference in the world in the coming years and Kuwait is one of the countries where futsal is growing the quickest.
Santi Valldares' squad will bring forward the start of pre-season to the 1st July. On this date the squad for the 2013/2014 season will begin to prepare for this Mini World Cup, in which Santiago is the only Spanish representative. On the 10th July the team will travel to Kuwait and 2 days later begin the competition alongside 15 other teams from around the world.
Among the participants are Pinocho from Argentina, Atlético Huila from Colombia, Chonburi de Tailandia (club coached by Pulpis), Cardinal Rivne from Ukraine, Sport Colonial from Paraguay, City’us Tîrgu-Mures from Romanía, Dabiri Tabriz from Iran, Al-Sadd from Qatar, Al-Sadaka from Lebanon, Muharraq from Bahrain, Zamalek from Egypt, Al-Nasser from Saudí Arabia and Al-Salmiya SC and Qadsia, Al-Kuwait from Kuwait.
A total of 16 teams will dispute the 1st phase with 4 groups of 4 teams in which only the 1st placed team in each group goes to the semi finals and from there to the final. The draw for the groups will be carried out on 18th June, where the rivals for Santiago Futsal will be know. The draw will be attended by Ramón García, club president, and Miguel Fernández, general director, after being invited by the organisers.
