Oregon LiveHacienda CDC hosts open house for new Northeast Portland futsal courtby
Larry Bingham - The Oregonian May 06, 2013Hacienda CDC held an open house late Monday afternoon for its recently completed covered futsal court at the intersection of Northeast Killingsworth Street and Cully Boulevard.
Timbers owner Merritt Paulson and City Commissioner Nick Fish last year joined officials from Hacienda, Adidas and Verde to break ground on the $300,000 project.
Monday afternoon, area children gathered with officials and Timbers Joey inside the new court for the ceremonial ball kick.
The court, paid for through individual and corporate donations, brings to a park-deprived area of the city a state-of-the-art facility. Northeast Portland children, who had played in the Hacienda parking lot, will be able to play safely indoors.
The facility sits on the grounds of Hacienda CDC's Ortiz Community Center.
