Andrew FranczakGOFFS Oak based team Woodside Youth U-10s have been crowned Hertfordshire FA Youth Futsal champions.
Futsal is the five v five format of football that encourages player development with the use of different equipment and rules.
Popular worldwide, the fast paced nature of Futsal and the heavier weight of the ball means players are more involved in the game and have more touches improving their technique and decision making.
Woodside proved they have perfected the skills of the sport as, after finishing top in the group stage, they defeated Harvesters 5-4 on penalties in the final after a 1-1 draw.
A total of 16 teams battled it out in three age groups at the tournament, which was held at Gosling Sports Park, Welwyn Garden City.
Head coach Franco Di Rubbo said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for such a small club, the boys have worked really hard this year in both Futsal and 7-a-side format of the game also winning the Cambridge Cup at the London Soccer Academy.”
Woodside Youth U-10s play in the Emerald Division of the Mid Herts Rural Minors League and are looking for new players. For more details call Franco Di Rubbo on 07958 604166 or Lee Baldwin on 07904 738035.
