This is Plymouth/The HeraldPlymstock and Devonport reach county futsal finalsFUTSAL fever has reached Plymouth, with several schools in the area taking part in the FA National Youth festival this winter.
The festival is the only national competition in the sport.
The schools are competing at under 12, 14 and 16 level for both boys and girls.
Recently it was the turn of the under-14 girls, with Plymstock, Tavistock, Devonport High School and Lipson all competing in the local qualifying round at the Plymouth Life Centre.
Plymstock ran out winners, with Devonport High coming second. Both schools have qualified for the county finals as a result, and if either are successful there, they will then compete in the regional finals, and then possibly the national finals in Birmingham.
"There was some excellent action," Plymouth Schools FA secretary Chris French said.
"Over 40 goals were scored in the six fixtures, and the girls played some really high tempo games, with each team improving as the afternoon progressed."
French is pleased that levels of participation in futsal have continually increased over the past three years, and participation this year will certainly surpass last years levels.
Today the under-14 boys and under-16 girls will be in action at the Life Centre hoping to book their places at the county finals.
