Belarusian Telegraph AgencyBelarus 6th in U21 Futsal Tournament in St. Petersburg18.12.2012MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Belarus Team finished sixth at the U21 Futsal International Tournament in Saint Petersburg, BelTA has learnt.
Igor Baskakov’s men lost to the Czech Republic 2:3 in a match for the fifth place. The Czech team scored twice in the first half, with Belarus’ Yevgeny Danileiko pulling one back. After the break the Czech again settled a two-goal cushion before Yevgeny Gromyko scored the final goal of the match.
During the tournament Belarus Team lost to Italy and Slovakia 1:2, fell 0:3 to Russia and was held off 1:2 by Slovakia. In the repechage tournament for the 5th-8th places the Belarusians beat Portugal 3:2 in overtime. Pavel Rogovik received the best player honors for the Belarusian team.
Ukraine Team beat Slovakia 4:2 to claim the tournament trophy. Russia outplayed Iran 4:3 to take bronze.
It was the sixth time Belarus took part in the tournament. The Belarusians finished 5th in 2003, 6th in 2004, 8th in 2005, 6th in 2006 and 9th in 2007.
The first futsal competitions in Saint Petersburg were held in 1992.
